HOUSES ROBBED IN THE FLOODED BIHAR

Criminals and anti- social elements are looting abandoned houses and robbing hapless evacuees at gun point in flood- affected Bihar as the surging waters have flushed hundreds of thousands of people out of the safety of their homes, say officials.
Dozens of robberies have been reported from Madhepura, Supaul and Saharsa - the districts that are the worst-affected by the floods triggered by Kosi river two weeks ago that have claimed 35 lives and affected over two million people.
"Valuables have been looted from the houses of flood victims in the last two to three days by criminals and anti- social elements in small towns and villages," a police source said here.
"No less than two dozen cases of loot and robbery have been reported in Madhepura town and smaller places like Udakishanganj, Murliganj, Bihariganj in the Madhepura district in the last four days," a district official said.
Similar cases have been reported towns in Supaul and Saharsa. Besides, even boatmen have looted flood victims in the name of rescuing them, say police.
Thousands of people have fled their homes, taking only the bare essentials with them and leaving behind everything else.
Many who have taken shelter in relief camps at Saharsa, Patna, Purnea and Katihar fear that anti-social elements will loot their houses. Some unconfirmed reports of molestation of women have also come in from flood hit areas.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has warned of stern action against those found robbing people in the flooded areas.

BIHAR'S FRIEND SEND MORE HELP

Temporarily putting all political differences aside in view of the grim flood situation in Bihar that so far has taken nearly a hundred lives, leaders of various states have opened up their coffers to mount relief operations in the flood-ravaged areas where more than 3 million people have been displaced following the breach in Kusahi dam nearly two weeks ago.
Anti-Bihari sentiments fomented by segregationist Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray notwithstanding, the Maharashtra government on Sunday announced a donation of Rs. 10 crore for relief efforts in Bihar.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, following a meeting with his ministers and bureaucrats on Saturday, said he was sending Rs. 10 crore to the Chief Minister Relief Fund in Bihar. He also said he was dispatching medicines, milk powder, tarpaulins and other items needed to run a relief shelter in flood- hit areas.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, during a telephonic talk with his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar on Sunday, pledged to send Rs. 5 crore for relief operation.
Modi also ordered dispatching of 12 rescue teams comprising 50 highly- trained emergency experts to join hundreds of relief workers in Bihar.
Stepping up to the plate in view of the dire situation in Bihar, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje also announced a financial assistance of Rs. 10 crore towards the Chief Minister Relief Fund while promising to send additional aid, if required.
Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday pledged a donation of Rs. 5 crore for the flood victims in Bihar.
"This is a calamity of unprecedented magnitude and the people of Haryana are with Bihar in their time of need," Hooda said adding food and other relief items were also being sent to ease some burden on Nitish Kr.

BJP DEMANDED TO ANNOUNCE FLOOD AS NATIONAL DISASTER

BJP demanded that the flood in bihar which is worst in history should be declared as national calamity as sunami. they demanded that the centre should bear all the burden for relief and rehabilitation of the marooned.

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad has said that he would ask PM Manmohan Singh, Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and HM Shivraj Patil to make an aerial survey of the flood-affected districts of Bihar to see for themselves the devastation caused by floods.Prasad, who made an aerial survey of the flood-affected districts of north Bihar, blamed the state Government for not taking up flood protection work on time and not sharing vital information with the Centre about conditions of embankments and flood protection work with the centre.After making an aerial survey of Araria, Purnea, Madhepura and other flood-affected north Bihar districts, Prasad told reporters in Patna that state government’s “apathy” towards completing the flood protection work in time had caused the floods.He said “At this hour of crisis, I am not interested in indulging in blame game and prepared to help the state government in mitigating the problems of flood affected people.”The railway minister said that state Chief Minister Nitish Kumar should have taken lessons from previous floods and completed the work of embankments before 15th June but he failed to do so.Prasad said Kumar should take disciplinary action against the officials who “misguided” him and failed to complete the flood fighting work on time.Stating that the Centre would fully support the Bihar government in mitigating the sufferings of flood affected people of north Bihar, Prasad announced the railways would not charge a single penny for transporting fodder to flood-hit districts.Besides, boulders required for plugging the breaches in embankments would also be transported free of cost to Bihar, Prasad said.

Bihar has emerged as the most congested telecom circle, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said here on Monday. TRAI also said that Bharti Airtel is the service provider with the highest level of congestion.Bihar leads the list of most congested states, the others being Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, the Northeast and Himachal Pradesh. TRAI said congestion level has decreased in the April-June quarter across the country.In order to ensure seamless interconnection, TRAI has been monitoring the level of congestion at the point of inter-connection (PoI) between the various service providers on a monthly basis.This parameter signifies the ease with which a subscriber of one network is able to communicate with a customer of another network. It also reflects the effectiveness of interconnection between the two networks.A TRAI notification issued in July 2005 stipulates that out of 200 calls between two operators, only one call should face congestion problem, reflecting a congestion level of 0.5 percent.However, in June TRAI said this was more than five per cent, or 10 times the desired level.The report also said that leading telecom player Bharti Airtel tops the list of most congested networks, followed by Reliance Communications (RCom), Dishnet Wireless, Vodafone and Idea.

With the Kosi river continuing to unleash its fury in Supaul, Araria, Madhepura and Saharsa districts of Bihar bordering Nepal, the Army was called out to help the marooned people on Tuesday, the flood have affected 15 districts.

floood situation in bihar became worsend as rain continued in nepal in past 24 hrs. the koshi river has changed his direction of flow which caused a heavy loss . many people got drowned and abt 20 lakh people are suffering from this situation. the flood water has entered in the madhepura town . the condition of purnia is also not much different.
